Bowel Cancer - Am I at risk?
Cancer of the large bowel is the second most common internal cancer in Australia after prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.
It develops in 1 in 20 Australians.
The risk increases significantly after the age of 40 and continues to
increase with age.
If detected early, bowel cancer is curable.
People in a higher than average risk group are usually those
with a history in their family of polyps or cancer.
What are polyps?
Polyps are growths which can occur on the lining of the bowel. Most bowel polyps are not cancerous but nearly all bowel cancers start as polyps.
